Material Girls Events Doll Display: International Quilt Festival The Material Girls participate in several events each year. Our biggest participation event is the International Quilt Festival held each Fall in Houston, Texas. Material Girls is the "coordination receptacle" for the dolls that are displayed in the exhibits at IQF each year, including "In Celebration of the Doll", and the "Treasures of the Gypsy Challenge". One of our Members is responsible for receiving the dolls that have been solicited throughout the year. She accepts shipment, checks the dolls to make sure they arrived safely, photographs them and keeps a catalog for the show. She then transports them to the show where our group meets to setup the displays. We unpack, assemble (when required) and setup the dolls. At the end of the show, we carefully re-pack the dolls, transport and ship them back to their homes. In conjunction with the "In Celebration of the Doll" exhibit, Material Girls sponsors an exhibit of 50 dolls made by club members. For the 2005 show, we asked our members to make one of the dolls from our book "Deeper Into the Woods" to be displayed at IQF, in addition to other dolls our members had created throughout the year. We usually display dolls made in workshops or retreat. Retreat Christmas Party Each December, instead of our regular meeting, we gather for a festive Christmas party. Each member brings their favorite side dish or dessert, and we usually have a Pin doll or Ornament swap. The highlight of the gathering is when the Secret Sister dolls are revealed.
