Material Girls History Material Girls Doll club was started in 1994 with only two members: Diane Taylor and Annette Money, who met at the International Quilt Festival. Two other dollmakers joined in 1995 and now Material Girls has a membership of more than 70 kindred spirits -- potential dollmakers, current dollmakers from beginners to those with advanced skills, teachers, and others who just love making cloth dolls. Each of our members have their own individual talents which are showcased in every meeting. Monthly meetings provide a forum for sharing dollmaking
techniques, enhancing skills and lots of fun and friendship, along
with a show and tell segment. Club-sponsored workshops bring nationally and internationally known doll artists/teachers
to Houston several times a year to share their expertise and artistry
with our members.
Club members participate in doll exhibits in the Texas
Gulf Coast area, including the International Quilt Festival, as well
as provide soft, cuddly dolls for orphans in South Africa, Dolls
for Sick Kids, and offer assistance to local Girl Scouts working on
their doll badges.
We also have a wonderful monthly newsletter sent via
email or snail mail.
